Gisla Bush

Tutor

My name is Gisla Bush and I obtained my Bachelor's degree in three years in Urban Design and a minor in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) with cum laude honors at the age of 18 from Florida Atlantic University (FAU).  I subsequently earned my Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning with a grade point average of 3.80 from FAU as well.  During my tenure at FAU, my accomplishments included being selected as the sole representative for FAU’s College of Design and Social Inquiry in the Graduate College’s recognition of a “Graduate Students Making Waves".   I was featured in the Graduate College brochure that is distributed to interested potential graduate students. I was also one of three students selected and featured in the video presentation at the yearly Scholarship Donors' breakfast.  I, accompanied by my two sisters, were also recognized during half-time at the first FAU home football game. I, along with my sisters and parents, were acknowledged at the President's State of the University’s Address because of our accomplishments.  At the graduation ceremony, the President recognized me as one of the youngest students to graduate from the university with a Bachelor’s degree.   Most recently, I have been deemed one of the 100 most outstanding women in the history of FAU and am included in the book that recognized these women--“Legacymakers: 100 Women of Distinction at Florida Atlantic University.”

I am the recipient of many awards and scholarships. One of them being the Robert A. Caitlin/David W. Long Scholarship from the Planning and Black Community Division of the American Planning Association (APA).  I was also selected as a recipient of the Florida APA Young Planner Group 2015 Conference Scholarship and assisted in coordinating the mentor match program for the conference.  My first professional article was published by APA in 2018.  I was one of the speakers at the 2019 APA conference in San Francisco, California.

Currently, I am working at the City of Pompano Beach as a Planner.  I sit on the City of West Park's Zoning, Education, and Student Council boards.
